ARTIST BIO

Gary Albert is The Music Alchemist. The composer and performer’s captivating music and live concert experiences blur the boundaries between contemporary, poetic, neoclassical and impressionistic sounds infused with an evocative electronic undertone and a spine-tingling, cinematic flair. Critics have called his work “a multi-instrumental dream”, “a one-man cosmic symphony” and “beautiful with unforgettable music”.

Hailing from humble working-class East London roots he was born in the early 1980s. He grew up on a deprived council estate in Walthamstow but discovered the flute and piano aged 11 after a local initiative to get kids in schools learning instruments free of charge. Inspired, he jumped at the chance.

He began his journey of learning music and became obsessed. You would find him in the music practice room before school, every break time and after school - he had found his gift and his calling.

By the age of 16 he had earned himself a full scholarship to the prestigious Purcell School of Music, a school for young gifted classical musicians. Years later he won two further scholarships to attend the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal Academy of Music.

Gary says “Music saved my life. Addiction and crime runs in my family. I am certain that I would have gone down a very different and much darker life path if I hadn’t found what I was good at so early on. I am forever thankful for the grace that has blessed me”.

The multi-award-winning artist has taken audiences on transportive sonic voyages with headline appearances at venues such as Wilderness, Latitude, Wonderment and Soul Pride Festivals. His last two magical solo concerts ‘Luminosity’ and ‘Metamorphosis’ earned him four 5-star press reviews and four international awards including:

  • Best Performance Music Video

  • Best Sound Design

  • Best Live Performance

  • Best Live Performance On Film

Other career highlights over his two decade career include performing solo alongside Brian May and Kerry Ellis at the Royal Albert Hall, starring in and composing the full score and songs for E4's hit series ‘Playing It Straight', taking to the stage alongside Judi Dench for Stephen Sondheim's 80th Birthday Prom, and performing as part of sensational Arts Orchestra collective The Irrepressibles as their flautist.

Harmonising a timeless sense of organic musicality with his fluttering flutes, pulsing pianos and velvet vocals, Gary Albert intricately weaves masterful loops, hypnotic layers and a tapestry of dreamlike FX for a transportive musical journey to remember.

LUMINOSITY

The multi-award-winning, critically acclaimed ‘LUMINOSITY’ is Gary Albert’s ‘Cosmic Concert Film’ and live performance spectacular - a sonic expression of the creation of the universe which one critic called “a one-man cosmic symphony”. It explores the creativity of the cosmos, the wonder of your universe and the miracle that is our human life.

Through music, sound and spoken word, the multi-instrumentalist charts the creation of time and space; the very first sparks of light shimmer through his ethereal flute, the gathering stardust that forms galaxies ripples from his sparkling piano, and the miracle of life emerging on our planet Earth pours forth through his soaring vocals.

Knitted together with masterful loops, lush layers, emotive soaring melodies, and a multitude of dreamy, otherworldy FX, Gary Albert, The Music-Alchemist, invites you on a sonic voyage out to the furthest reaches of the universe only to arrive back to your own heart in the here and now.
