East London based artist Gary Albert is about to drop his first ever single ‘The Lake’ (out 6th October 2023), after a long and successful 20-year career as a musician. The new track is from his upcoming debut EP 'Metamorphosis’. [LISTEN HERE]
It was during the lockdown of 2020 that the multi-award-winning composer and performer realised he had spent his whole career making other artist’s music come alive but that he had his own sonic dreams to make come true. And so he spent the entire lockdown composing, recording and producing his own EP.
A captivating and dream-inducing neo-classical track, ‘The Lake’ balances profound serenity with emotive and captivating cinematic beauty. Gary Albert’s sparkling piano melts into the purity of his celestial flute, all lavished with dreamy electronic FX that create a sense of deep peace and contemplative tenderness.
The multi-instrumentalist blurs the boundaries between contemporary, poetic, impressionistic neo-classical sounds with an evocative electronic undertone and a spine-tingling cinematic flair - if the musical DNA of Max Richter, Nils Frahm and Olafur Arnalds combined, this could be it.
Gary Albert has racked up 5 awards over the last 2 years for his captivating live performances, including ‘Best Performance Music Video’, ‘Best Sound Design’, ‘Best Live Performance’ and ‘Best Live Performance On Film’.
Critics have said of his live shows “... a multi-instrumental dream. If you are looking for meaning, hope or even some time to reflect on yourself and everything that has happened during these trying times, catch his magical performance, close your eyes and let him take you on a journey to another world entirely” - Carl Burgess, Screen Critix
And now, Gary Albert is ready to put out his first ever official release after 20 years in the music industry…
ARTIST BIO
Gary Albert, aka 'The Music Alchemist’, comes from humble working-class East London roots. Born in the early 1980s on a deprived Walthamstow council estate, he discovered the flute and piano, aged 10, after a local initiative to get kids in schools learning instruments free of charge.
And so, he embarked on his journey of learning to create and play music and became obsessed. You would have found him in the music practice room before school, during break times and after school - he had truly found his gift. By the age of 16, he had earned himself a full scholarship to the prestigious Purcell School of Music, a private school for young gifted classical musicians. Years later he won two further full scholarships to attend the world class Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal Academy of Music. One teacher called him ‘the Billy Elliot of classical music’.
The composer and performer’s captivating music and live concert experiences blur the boundaries between contemporary, poetic, neoclassical and impressionistic sounds infused with an evocative electronic undertone and a spine-tingling, cinematic flair. Critics have called his work “a multi-instrumental dream”, “a one-man cosmic symphony” and “beautiful with unforgettable music”.
The multi-award-winning artist has taken audiences on transportive sonic voyages with headline appearances at venues such as Wilderness Festival and Wonderment Festival two years in a row, as well as his double bill of sold-out Central London concerts, earning him four 5-star press reviews and four awards including “Best Performance Music Video", “Best Sound Design”, “Best Live Performance” and “Best Live Performance On Film”.
Other career highlights over the last 20 years include performing solo alongside Brian May and Kerry Ellis at Royal Albert Hall, composing the score for and starring in E4's hit series ‘Playing It Straight', taking to the stage alongside Judi Dench for Stephen Sondheim's 80th Birthday Prom, and performing/recording in sensational orchestral pop collective The Irrepressibles as their flautist.
Taking inspiration from the likes of Max Richter, Hania Rani, Olafur Arnalds and Nils Frahm, Gary Albert harmonises a timeless sense of organic musicality with his fluttering flutes, pulsing pianos and velvet vocals as he intricately weaves masterful loops, hypnotic layers and a tapestry of dreamlike FX for a transportive musical sound all of his own.
